Instead, John went through Ruchbah, in the center North of The Core, through Sheratan, to Zaurak. If it were, a trip to the Deep for a Bactrian, with 245 bunks, would have been a better choice. That would be the easy path to financial security, but money wasn't his goal. He considered a brief stop at Alpha Centauri for a Star Queen: its 112 bunks would make capturing ships even easier. He continued boarding low-risk ships to add to his fleet, and looting the more difficult ships for their high-value outfits. John took missions leading him North, out of The Dirt Belt, and into The Core. But he needed one more thing: a Jump Drive. It was going to be the backbone of his strategy. He used his 10M to buy the Skynet, an Osprey, on Tarazed. He was still paying exorbitant (not really) salaries and occasional death benefits, but he managed to pay them off in full at every landing. In just a few months, John had 10M and a small fleet. A quick visit to Nunki, in the central South, got him the Fragmentation Grenades needed to make boarding more feasible. Its 60 cargo and 28 crew make it ideal for boarding many ships. ![]() Very little danger of losing an escort.įinally, with 3M under his belt, John went to Tarazed (in the far South of the Galaxy, near the Eastern edge) and picked up a Blackbird. Any pirates lying in wait went after John, but he was too fast for them: he just circled around, letting other ships pick at the pirates, or kiting them away from the landing zone, until his escort finally arrived. I felt a little dirty, but I just refused to hold down the 'J' key, ditched the escorted ships, and went straight to the destination. With his fighter, he mostly ran escort missions luckily, especially at low levels, he didn't actually need to fight anything. He wandered the galaxy, making money for my first ship. John christened it the Johnny 5 and ventured out to seek his fortune. Bad choice it takes too long get to better ships. The Universe should work for me, dang it! I wanted a powerful fleet with minimal expense. I calculated that it would take thousands of jumps for the salaries to eat through my credit, assuming I never made money ever again. But the salaries I was paying just seemed. Sure, we had dominated all the Pirate planets, and a few others who dared to attack us during the war. Sure, we had enough cargo space and bunks to fulfill practically any mission, any time. Sure, we were practically invincible (except a couple of times when we were ambushed by four or more Marauder fleets). As I reached the endgame, though, I was a little dissatisfied with my Bactrian and its fleet of Beetle escorts. ![]() I made a lot of discoveries and had a lot of fun. Strip any good outfits, keep any ships you like, and sell the rest.I had a really enjoyable experience my first time through Endless Sky. Once you have a good group you can take your whole fleet to a planet with a shipyard and an outfitter. ![]() Every once in a while I’ll land to park the ships I’ve captured. After I have a few ships captured I’ll move away from the group, select the surrounding ships, and send them off to a corner of the screen where they’re less likely to get targeted by hostiles. The only reason I use the Bactrian is because it has such a large crew. The fleet does all of the work while I just mop up the endless supply of disabled sparrows, hawks, furies, headhunters, and quicksilvers. I take off and immediately tell my fleet to hold position. I pick a dominated pirate world as a target and land. My current capture fleet consists of 1 Bactrian and 12 Beetles all fully armed with heavy lasers. After you build up a decent fleet you can somewhat automate your process. Outfit your ship and others in your group with lasers and it’ll be easier to stop your attack before you blow up the target. If you take missions to track down pirates (or marauders, but they’re usually tougher) the other ships around will help you disable the target but they won’t destroy it.
